Recipient of the International Achievement Award [2005] by Women in Aerospace, Susmita personifies the power of youth, entrepreneurship and today’s blurring global boundaries in challenging the status quo of aerospace. Nominated for the 2004 MIT TR100 Awards [World’s Top 100 Young Innovators], and variously called - THE MOON WALKER, JOHN GLENN(OVICH), and PRODIGY - by the Press, Susmita pursues her avant-garde ideas and dreams for a space renaissance via her orbital enterprise.

In 2001, Susmita launched MOONFRONT [www.moonfront.com], a boutique aerospace consulting firm in San Francisco [USA]. In 2003, she co-founded LIQUIFER Systems Group [www.liquifer.at], an aerospace architecture and design firm in Vienna [Austria]. With her latest venture, Earth2Orbit [www.earth2orbit.com] in Mumbai, she dreams of leading India into the world of private enterprise for space exploration and utilization.

Susmita has more than ten years of experience working in the aerospace industry. Clients include European Space Agency, NASA, aerospace mega corps, small businesses and non-profits. Prior to taking the entrepreneurial plunge, Susmita worked in international business development for the Space Station program at Boeing in Huntington Beach. She has also worked on Shuttle-Mir projects at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston.

Educated in India, France, and Sweden, Susmita holds degrees in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design and Space Studies from Gujarat University [India], National Institute of Design [India], and the International Space University [France] respectively. She will be defending her PhD on hyper-fidelity planetary mission simulators at Chalmers University [Sweden] in August 2009. Susmita is a member of Commission-VI of the International Academy of Astronautics [IAA] and sits on the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics [AIAA] Space Architecture Technical Committee. She often chairs conference sessions and lectures at universities worldwide.
